Kiwanis Timeline and Milestone

The Kiwanis Luzon District was established to unite Kiwanis clubs across Luzon in service to children and communities, marking key milestones through steady expansion, impactful service projects, leadership development, and strengthened partnerships, while continuing to uphold the global Kiwanis mission of improving the world one child and one community at a time.

 

Kiwanis was founded in Detroit Michigan

Kiwanis established worldwide membership through the introduction of a club in Asia-Pacific, the Kiwanis Club of Tokyo, Japan

Initial groundwork began in organizing the first club in the Philippines and in Southeast Asia.

Kiwanis Club of Manila was formed, with Andy D. Gruber as the charter president.

Charter Certificate of Kiwanis Club of Manila was formally presented

Additional three new clubs were formed – Kiwanis Club of Quezon City, Kiwanis Club of Davao City, and Kiwanis Club of Makati.

Philippine Provisional District was established. Held the 1st Kiwanis Convention in the Philippines at Manila Hotel, where the eight (8) chartered clubs adopted the By-Laws of the Philippine Provisional District. Kwn. Emilio A. Asistores of Kiwanis Club of Makati was elected as the first governor of the provisional district.

Philippine Permanent District was formed. Held the 6th Annual District Convention, where the 20 chartered clubs adopted a new set of Constitution and By-Laws. Kwn. Homobono “HB” Calleja of Kiwanis Club of Quezon City was elected as the first governor of the permanent district.

Reorganization of Philippine District into Philippine Luzon District and Philippine South District (now Southern Philippine District).

Philippine Luzon District of Kiwanis International was incorporated under the laws of the Republic of the Philippines.

Produced the 1st Filipino and Asian Kiwanis International Trustee, Trustee Avelino “Beling” V. Tanjuakio

The first all-female Kiwanis Club in the world, the Kiwanis Club of Bituin ng Manila was founded.

Acquired and established District Office at Francisco Gold Condominium, Cubao, Quezon City

Philippine Kiwanis Week (every 3rd week of January) was declared under Presidential Proclamation No. 124 by then President Fidel V. Ramos.

The district joined Kiwanis’ Global Health Initiative against Iodine Deficiency

Marked a history by producing the 1st Filipino and Asian Kiwanis International President in the person of KI President Juan “Ito” F. Torres.

The district participated in another Kiwanis’ Global Health Initiative, the Eliminate Project (against Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus).

Celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Kiwanis in the Philippines, with reorganization of divisions aimed at expanding membership.

Joined the entire Kiwanis community in the celebration of Kiwanis Centennial Year.

Produced a 2nd Filipino Kiwanis International President, Pres. Florencio “Polly” C. Lat

Reached a highest total membership at 6,023 members despite the pandemic.

Initiated the district’s first website.

Established the 3-storey Kiwanis Center in Tagaytay City, Cavite

Organized the 1st Key Club District outside United States of America, the Kiwanis Philippine Key Club District.

Regained membership growth following decline during the post COVID-19 pandemic era. Recognized as Most Distinguished District and Beacon District by Kiwanis International.

Achieved the highest contribution made to Kiwanis Choldren’s Fund in a year, amounting to USD 17,240 (individual and club contributions). Introduced digitalization through the 1st electronic version of Ang Kiwanian Magazine, 1st podcasts, and the renewed district website.

Set to host the 1st Kiwanis International Convention in the Philippines, jointly with Asia-Pacific Convention on June 24-27, 2026 at Marriott Hotel.
